We landed in Squamish at the end of 2011. After living on a small hobby farm for 10 years, our new life in Squamish was a shock to us. With everything so close and a small yard, it took us time to get into the new rhythm. We were still missing the activities of farm life. I first heard of Kris Latham and her endeavors on Facebook. She certainly caught my attention and my heart. I just knew we could find a way to get involved. So, in 2017 I had my two older daughters start volunteering at the rescue. So much good came out of this choice. Over time and with commitment my daughters learned new skills of gentling horses and growing their core values of becoming strong young women. SCCR has many positive mentors and they participated with working with one of the trainers. My girls met a sweet horse that was healing from an injury. A two year-old quarter horse mare. This was my beloved sweet Sterling. She was needing that kind attention, and my heart was devoted to walking with her through her recovery which in tern, included my recovery. In 2020 I changed my work schedule and made my schedule work for Sterling so I could be with her 3 days a week for 3 years before adopting her. to help her with her recovery. In the fall of 2022, Sterling was having trouble with her right hind pastern and we needed to line up a procedure the vet recommended. In April of 2023, I formally adopted her. A year later, she is moving with better ease and we can start light training. Last year was her best winter so far and we look forward to developing our horsemanship We continue to work with the vet to see how best to support her healing. SCCR is our second home, my family has grown with the rescue and our family relationships are stronger than ever. The connection and effort to have a horse in your life brings you to a place of grace in the humble path to love.
