Second Chance Cheekye Ranch: Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome.

Second Chance Cheekye Ranch is a sanctuary for horses, donkeys, pot-bellied pigs and dogs. Ask any volunteer around the ranch and you will hear a tale of how this incredible place has changed not only the lives of all the animals who call it home, but also the lives of the wonderful people who have dedicated their time and energy to helping these animals in need.

To help the rescue:

  • Donate here to contribute towards saving these incredible animals.

  • Learn more about the fate of horses who are not rescued, and how to advocate.

  • Book a tour to learn more about the ranch and meet some of the horses who have been saved.

  • Volunteer at the ranch. No horse experience necessary.

Ranch Report

Our 5th annual Hooves & Hearts Fundraiser on June 15th was a huge success, raising over $ 8,000 in funds for ongoing care. We would like to thank everyone who attended, donated items for our auction, assisted on the day of with volunteering and all the ins and outs of making this event happen for our equines! See you all next year!

SCCR welcomed 4 horses (Sloan, Cassidy, Jazz and Willy) and 2 Hinnies (Horse father/donkey Mom) ~ Denis and Tess in June.

We found loving homes for Sloan and Jazz already and Willy, Cassidy, Denis and Tess are settling in wonderfully.

July looks like a fun time around the Ranch with Summer programs and quality horse time!

~ Kris

Adoption Highlight : Piper

This beautiful chestnut mare came to us with her 7 month old babe by her side from a round up in the interior of BC. She is sensitive, but eager to connect with a very sweet and attentive nature once she has your trust. Piper has been saddled and was doing well but had an injury that kept her from her training for several months. She is now all healed and back in training and progressing well and enjoying the work. Piper is just shy of 15 hands, 13 years old, well built, and would make an excellent trail companion for someone who has a calm hand and soft demeanor to bring her along.

Adoption Success Story: Kris & Irish

I met Irish while visiting my friend Elle and her horse at SCCR. I wasn’t looking for a horse, but Irish caught my eye with her unique markings and sweet demeanour. She has been blossoming into a stunning and lovely mare in the time I’ve known her. She opened my heart to the idea of having a horse again after having lost my heart horse to an injury many years ago. She has been with me for almost a month now and as she settles into her new home, I’ve been getting to see her curiosity and playful side come out. The love and training that she received at SCCR has provided a solid foundation for us to embark on our journey together, and I will be forever grateful to all of the staff who helped shape the horse she is today.

Sponsorship Highlight: Sweets

This soulful gentle mare joined us in 2018 with 7 other horses from a round up in the Interior of BC. She had her daughter Quinn by her side. She joined another of our favorite mares (Casey) as a companion and was fostered up in Pemberton BC until the fall of 2023 when she returned to the Ranch. Sweets, now in her late 20's, has lost most of her teeth and requires mashes 3-4 times a day and grass to keep her healthy and strong, so she can keep up with her donkey besties, Cheeks and Jasper.

By sponsoring Sweets on a monthly basis this will help ensure she gets the high fat/protein grains and extra supplements she requires.
